Context

In order to increase capacity, support the natural growth of traffic, and improve operational efficiency, Kenya Airport Authority (KAA) began to develop the facilities of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and had then received the financing of the French Development sgency (AFD) for the rehabilitation and upgrading of airside facilities at the airport.

Our solution

The construction works covered :
• Rehabilitation of the cladding: milling the most damaged sections and application of coating, sealing of cracks and resurfacing, marking on the ground, improvement of the drainage system. The total surface area of approximately 600,000 m² was rehabilitated.
• The upgrading of the traffic lanes capacity: construction of 4 lanes of rapid runway exits + 2 lanes of right-angle traffic, extension of the parallel lane to the threshold 24. In total, approximately 80 000 m² of new traffic cladding have been put in place.
• ICAO Cat I to Cat II instrument landing system upgrade : this included the installation of centerline taxiway lights, landing lights, threshold lights / end and flank bar, taxiway edge lights and center lights, approach and crossbar lights, improved power supply for visual landing aid (PAPI).
