Haikou Meilan International Airport
Architectural concept of the new Haikou Meilan International Airport terminal
Added value
The new infrastructure respect totally the design proposed by ADP Ingénierie and had been awarded.
Context
In 2011, terminal 1 of the Haikou Airport welcomed nearly 9 million passengers for an estimated capacity of 12 M passengers. In light of the strong growth of air traffic in Haikou, T1 will, therefore, be saturated soon.
Our solution
The Chinese authorities have launched a competition for the design of a second terminal (T2), located opposite T1, and scheduled to open in 2020. ADP Ingénierie was competitor and won.
Competitors were also asked to propose a master plan for the final phase of the airport, with the addition of a terminal 3 bringing the platform’s total capacity to 62 M passengers in 2040.
The design of this new terminal had to factor in the following elements:
- 18 M passenger capacity,
- Authorised surface area: 250,000 sqm to 290,000 sqm,
- Traffic distribution: 88% domestic, 12% international,
- Peak times: 6,589 passengers,
- Retail area: 10% - i.e. 25,000 m²,
- 34 gate parking positions distributed in the following manner: 1 Code F, 7 Code E, 1 code D and 25 Code C,
