Ethiopian Airlines just announced the construction of a mega-airport

Ethiopian Airlines is launching the construction of a new airport. This new platform aims to welcome 100 million passengers and to become an African hub in line with the airports of Dubai and Istanbul.

The new airport will be on the Bishoftu site, 40 km south of Addis Ababa. This is an ambitious project for the Ethiopian authorities who now feel cramped in the current Bole airport. National pride, its current traffic of 19 million passengers is no longer able to meet the need for the country’s welcome capacity. In addition, its high location implies a reduced stock of kerosene to take off which forces stops on the plane’s way. Altitude also wears out the planes.

The new site is located 400 m lower than Bole and should fix these constraints.

ADP Ingénierie  (ADPI) has been working for a long time in support of the Ethiopian authorities for its projects at Bole airport. For the new airport, our teams carried out the master plan and advised Addis Ababa on the choice of site.
