BAC was planning to manage the increase in traffic by renovating and expanding the existing passenger terminal. Based on the initial results of the site plan studies, ADP Ingénierie recommended building a new passenger terminal with a capacity of 13.5 MPPA rather than undertaking a renovation/upgrade of the congested passenger terminal while in use.

Extension
of Gimhae
International Airport

The initial objective was to look for an optimal site for a regional gateway to international markets on difficult and hilly terrain. Furthermore, the hill-free areas are very densely populated. Expected traffic was estimated at 40 MPPA and the size of the new airport at about 800 hectares (with two parallel runways). ADP Ingénierie's final recommendation was to expand the existing Gimhae Airport and we demonstrated its feasibility.

The result was based on a year-long feasibility study by the French company ADP Ingénierie, part of the ADP Group. “ADP Ingénierie concluded that expanding Gimhae Airport would be the best alternative, and the Government supports the results, as it has comprehensively considered the factors necessary in deciding the location of an airport, such as air safety, commercial viability, accessibility and the environment.”

Consultancy service within the framework of the master plan of the Busan-Gimhae International Airport expansion project in South Korea

Given the current increase in traffic, the client needs to increase the capacity of its existing infrastructure. Initially, the client was planning to build a new airport in the Yougnam Region. Based on ADP Ingénierie’s proposal, they decided instead to expand the existing airport (Busan-Gimhae). The company responsible for the master plan study of the airport expansion needs to develop the runway operating procedure and demonstrate control of the associated risks, through a safety study, as well as its effectiveness through simulation and various benchmarks.

  • The client's initial requirement was a site search to build a new international airport in the Younganm Region due to increased traffic at the existing airport (Busan-Gimhae). 
  • Confirm that the proposed runway system (which includes a new runway as part of the expansion) can be safely operated.
  • Minimize the impact of the new runway (including noise) on surrounding populations.

2015–2016: ADP Ingénierie recommended extending the existing airport rather than designing a new one. It is proposing a master plan for this.

2018: designing flight procedures, defining the operating procedure for the proposed runway system and demonstrating its safety compliance and operational efficiency. The technical study per se has not yet started (waiting for customer data).

ADP Ingénierie has developed a successful and close working relationship with the client and has already proven in the past its global expertise and its ability to anticipate.

Creation of a simulation model as part of a larger runway and taxiway system optimization project at the Capital international Airport of Beijing

Beijing International Airport is now reaching capacity saturation. Pending the opening of Beijing's new Daxing Airport (45 MPPA), the current airport is facing traffic saturation. This saturation disrupts the desired service and performance levels. The airport authorities were therefore looking for a way to simulate airside traffic in order to test the best scenarios for optimizing aircraft traffic on the ground (traffic rules + new infrastructure). 

The client had two priority requests:

  • Identification of congestion areas, proposals for improvements, comments on solutions proposed by airport authorities;

  • Performance simulation for the implementation of each work phase. 

  • The client also requested performance simulation after implementation of the improvements (for each scenario and for combined scenarios).

  • The client wanted the work to be phased to minimize the impact on operations.

  • The client requested a rough analysis of the costs of implementing the improvements. 

Our recommendation was to consider 3 runways.

Provide highly realistic inputs through the use of the data collection tool (SAFETY LINE). Assess infrastructure developments and measure the expected increase in performance. Assess possible scenarios for work on the taxiways to determine the impacts on service levels (waiting times, taxi routes, aircraft involved) and validate the phasing of the work.

Design of new passenger terminal of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport of Nairobi

The client was faced with an increase in traffic that the existing infrastructure could no longer handle. As part of the desired increase in passenger capacity, they wanted to separate the arrival and departure flows and restore the functionality of the terminal that had caught fire in 2013.

  • The client decided to increase passenger capacity to 10.3 MPPA.

  • They want to separate arrival and departure flows.

  • They want to recover the capacity of the terminal that had caught fire in 2013.

In response to all these requirements, ADP Ingénierie’s proposal to the client (who accepted it) was to merge the three existing terminals into a single new terminal to optimize the use of the resources of the whole hub (now including two runways).

ADP Ingénierie has thorough knowledge of the hub due to its previous projects (refurbishment of the existing runway, design of the second runway), is providing an engineering analysis of the precise value and proposing simulations to the client to confirm the design.

Refurbishment of aircraft parking areas of Perpignan-Rivesaltes Airport. Design and supervision of works

As part of the regular maintenance of its infrastructure, the Perpignan-Rivesaltes Airport Public-Private Planning Association (Syndicat Mixte d'Aménagement de l’Aéroport de Perpignan-Rivesaltes) decided to refurbish the parking areas.

  • The client first needed a diagnosis of the parking areas, then to refurbish the surfacing and the waste water network. It also included an update to the file required by the French Water Act.

  • The client decides to optimize the aircraft parking plan

  • The client requests that work be carried out while in service, and therefore development of the detailed phasing to ensure proper monitoring.

  • The client wants polluted effluent from deicing products to be taken into account.

ADP Ingénierie is mandated to: - provide the detailed design and put in place a team to monitor the work; - lead project management in a joint venture with regional design offices for greater responsiveness, particularly during the construction phase.

ADP Ingénierie proposed a solution enabling work to be carried out while in service and optimizing aircraft parking areas as part of their refurbishment.

The island of Zanzibar currently has only one passenger terminal which is insufficient in terms of both capacity and quality of service to accommodate air traffic generated mainly by tourism, which has been growing rapidly for several years. The Government of Zanzibar has therefore decided to build a second passenger terminal.

  • Complete construction of the new Terminal 2
  • Assist the contracting authority in managing the project
  • Support the contractor, which has limited experience in the airport sector

After having initially proposed a range of technical and contractual solutions which enabled the work to be restarted (interrupted at the request of the Contracting Authority because of various problems requiring resolution), ADP Ingénierie was entrusted with supervising the work, together with assisting the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport in managing the project, and supporting the Company (in charge of the design and construction work), which had limited experience in the airport sector.

ADP Ingénierie's knowledge of the client and its airport expertise have enabled it to:

  • propose technical and contractual solutions to the problems that had forced the client to interrupt the construction work. The construction site was able to restart;
  • manage the scale and unusual complexity of the project for the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport, assisting it in its contracting authority role;
  • assist the company in charge of design and construction on subjects related specifically to airports which are not its core business.

Groupe ADP performs operations to render the airports' BHS fully compliant with the latest security regulations.
ADP Ingénierie uses its technical expertise for the analysis of maintenance requirements and documentary reports produced by the companies in charge of maintenance.
